IPSE has recently conducted a study, exploring the UK Freelance Workforce in 2015, which reveals that the UK’s contractor workforce contributes around £109bn per year to the economy.
Most independent professionals are highly skilled and educated, a vital attribute to a thriving economy. The report states that around 30 per cent of professional contractor staff are involved in sectors such as technology and science while others are within information communication and finance.
Typically, traditional male dominated industries such as the ones described above, have drastically changed, now with 38 per cent of these contractor staff being women. The number of contractors in the industry seems to only be on the rise, meaning a more positive outlook for contractors.
A trend which supports the growth of the contracting industry, is the growing number of women contracting, with a 29 per cent increase since 2008. This has also led to a close race in the gender gap debate, with 47 per cent of contractors now women.
