According to new research by APSCo (the Association of Professional Staffing Companies), growth within the contractor sector remains steady for contractors and the self employed in professional sectors. Short term contracts have increased by 2 per cent year on year.
Opportunities within the Finance sector has risen to a huge 34 per cent since this time last year for contractor professionals. It has been pointed out that despite an almost identical increase in permanent roles, contracted project based work has been consistently strong.
It is seen that contracting is now the new ‘norm’ and that having a flexible workforce is beneficial to companies, in both the short and long term. Most are now bringing in specialists in certain sectors such as finance and accounting in order to manage change on a project to project basis.
The REC (Recruitment and Employment Confederation) revealed earlier in the month that 1.2 million people are in contracted roles at any given day throughout the year, which makes for a 3.6 per cent increase compared to last year (2013-14)
