One of the UK’s largest retailers, John Lewis is set to announce an IT spending spree in 2016, after already investing further into it’s IT sector six-fold. Plans to hire 500 new technology workers is said to commence in early 2016.
The retailer has already increased its IT investment over the past six years, which has trebled their IT workforce. Adding the planned 500 extra IT contractors to their London office will top the IT headcount at 2,000.
John Lewis’ managing director commented, “This total includes new hires via offshore contractors”, and adds that a hefty investment of £500M will be done to improve systems to increase the quality of forward planning and shopper analysis.
Their aim going forward in 2016 is to create a seamless journey for John Lewis customers, who have increased online sales by 13 per cent compared to the same time last year.
