Contractor Skill Shortages Continue
October saw the demand for contractor’s increase, as the gap within the contract market widened further. In particular, the construction and engineering sectors saw the biggest gap in skills shortages, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).
National Freelancers Day
Last week, thousands were celebrating IPSE’s National Freelancers Day, on it’s seventh annual event. The 12th of November marked the day that the self employed were celebrated for the challenges and hard work the freelancing community faces. UK Best in Europe for Contracting Sector
A sustained period of growth has hit the UK’s contracting sector and looks to continue to improve, with a study by by IPAG business school showing that iPro’s (individuals in highly skilled services that work for themselves), have rose by 63 per cent in the UK since 2004.
Another report by the Department of Business Innovation and Skills has shown the UK to be the 6th most attractive place to contract in Europe, seeing a 51 per cent increase in self employment numbers since 2000.
