In this week’s news:
UK Contracting Landscape Improves
The UK is now said to be the most attractive for the self employed and contractors alike, according to the Department for Business Innovation and Skills. Reports illustrated that there are now 5.2 million self employed workers in the UK alone. Furthermore, the UK is now said to be 6th best place in the world to do business.
IT Contractor Demand Growing
A recent report by Tech Cities Job Watch shows a 6 per cent rise in the total number of contractor roles advertised outside of London. The survey accredits the rise to companies outsourcing for specialist knowledge and skill sets in the short term, rather than hiring a permanent employee.
Graduates going for Freelancing
According to a recent survey by Policy Bee, online insurance broker, graduates are now favouring self employment and freelancing over traditional permanent roles. The survey showed that half of the respondents (1,002) had done freelance work and 44 per cent said they considered self employment as a career.
